Abstract

Background: Chronic pain associated with musculoskeletal disorders is a common and debilitating condition. Aquatic therapy, which involves performing exercises in a pool, has been proposed as a safe and effective intervention to manage chronic pain and improve mobility in patients with musculoskeletal conditions. This article reviews the benefits of aquatic therapy in the rehabilitation of chronic pain.
Methods: A review of clinical studies from 2016 to 2024 was conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of aquatic therapy in reducing chronic pain, improving joint function, and enhancing mobility in patients with musculoskeletal disorders.
Results: Aquatic therapy was found to significantly reduce chronic pain, improve range of motion, and increase physical function in patients with conditions such as osteoarthritis, fibromyalgia, and back pain. The buoyancy of water provided joint protection while enabling participants to perform exercises with less pain.
Conclusion: Aquatic therapy is an effective intervention for managing chronic pain in musculoskeletal disorders. It offers a low-impact environment that supports rehabilitation, reduces pain, and improves overall quality of life for patients with chronic musculoskeletal conditions.
